FFG Announces Community Wizard Open Beta

FFG has a new tool for building your gaming community. From their announcement:

The world at your fingertips

Complementing the Community Wizard’s search capabilities is a full suite of online tools. Simply create a free FFG forum account (current members already have access), and enjoy:

  • An interface that provides customized options depending on your account type. Upgrade your standard “player” account to an “organization” account (such as a retailer, game club, or convention), and become even more accessible to customers, members, and guests! For more on the specific benefits to organizations, visit our Community Wizard for Organizations website.
  • Convenient event management tools. Players can propose events through their favorite local retailers, and retailers can approve them with the click of a mouse. Manage the guest lists, send mass messages to guests, and more!
  • A robust private messaging system, including convenient color coding and optional email forwarding. When used in conjunction with the Community Wizard’s search capabilities, this helpful communication system lets you quickly connect to the players, retailers, and event organizers your searches locate.
  • Enhanced control over your collection of games. List games you own, as well as those that you’re currently playing or interested in playing. Like-minded local players can then use the Community Wizard to inform you of upcoming games and events!

Hey Check it out…

Looking for suggestions…

The Tannhauser Blog is looking to raise a little money for new figures for custom work. And to that end we’re thinking of having a raffle or pledge drive of some sort.

So, I was hoping you fans might have some ideas of what you might like to see.

Anyway please leave any ideas you may have in the comments section.

Fan Submission: Space Savers

If you have a small table Tannhauser can be a bit of a hassle to keep on the surface. To help, Ron has created prototype space saving character sheets. For now they are only available for the Reich and Union; more will be available soon. Check them out Click Below:

More Ideas for TH Sword & Sorcery

I’ve been brainstorming on this idea for awhile now, and have decided that instead of make generic character types, I would go a head and begin working up some named characters; it’s easier to come up with fluff, traits, and equipment if you have a name and a personality rather then a Tabula Rasa. Right now I’m thinking about doing some of the Tannhauser character’s ancestors in the year 1051, 900 years before the current Tannhauser date.

Some examples.

Colm MacNeal of the Clan MacNeal • Male, Human, Barbarian, Warrior, Ancestor of John MacNeal.

Lord Marquis Manfred von Heïzinger II • Male, Human, Alchemist, Warlock, The first of the great Heizinger Alchemists.

Adriana “the wolf” Volkov • Female, Human, Rouge, Expert thief, maternal ancestor of Gorgei Volkov.

Amet al-Andalusi • Female, Human, Moorish, Paladin, Put on her slain husband’s armor to save her village from crusaders, but was banished for pretending to be a man. Now works as a mercenary. Ancestor of Barry Brown. Obviousilly fits with the recently posted character art for the Paladin from Pathfinder.

Mikil Voronin • Male, Human, Ranger, A Russian Strelet (Archer) Irishka Voronin’s maternal ancestor.

By the way I’m planning orks and the like as well. In case your wondering how we can have orks, elves, etc, on the U-Chronic Earth in 1051, it’s easy to explain them as either U-World, or Superior World denizens, also Yggdrasil The World Tree is mentioned in TH, so elves and the like can come from the other 8 Realms.

Remember these are just some ideas, it will be a while before anything is set in stone.

What I’m Working On

Here’s what I’m working on right now.

- Updating the Mythopoeia, hope to have it complete by August.

- Rules for items and new Campaign system for TH Sword and Sorcery Mod.

- Still working on the Howling Commandos, but they’re on the back burner right now.

- And there are a couple of DUST projects in early development.

Well all for now.

The War Begins Today

DUST Warfare is available now.

Fan Submission: Advanced Capture the Flag

Note: This is being placed in the Scenarios Category, as the is no Game Mode Category here on the Tannhauser Blog.

Do you like the idea of Modes with their 'universal' and quick setups?
Do you like Capture the Flag (CtF) Mode, but find it can be over sooner than you'd like?

Do you like the use of skills in Objective Mode, but want a more tangible reason for completing the objectives?

Do you want combat to play the role of deterrence (as opposed to the primary objective, as in Deathmatch)?

Then your going to want to check out Artemus Maximus new Advanced Capture the Flag after the jump…

Get ready for Warfare

DUST Warfare should be out next week, and to get you ready FFG has posted a series of rules previews, take a look after the jump.

Fan Submission: Reformatted Scenarios

If your like me your Revised Edition Rulebook has likely fell apart and found it’s way into a three ring binder, along with the TH FAQ and any thing else 8.5” x 11”.

So to help everyone keep organized Horfrost3 from BBG has reformatted many of the Single Expansion Scenarios to letter size so they can also be fit in a binder.

The other scenarios not found in this PDF will be on their way soon.

Stand Alone Reprints of the Revised Rules Unlikly

Despite being listed on FFG’s up coming page since July 2011, the Tannhauser Revised Edition Rulebook is unlikely to be rereleased as a stand alone product.

revised rules

A statement form FFG customer service has been posted on BBG by Brian A.

“We are probably not going to reprint the revised rulebook, as it is available as a PDF and in the current copies of the Tannhauser base game. If you don't wish to print it out on your printer, you could have it printed at a FedEx/Kinko's or other copy center. Otherwise, the only way to get the published version is by purchasing the base game. If we do decide to reprint the rulebook, you will see an announcement on our Upcoming page. Thanks and have a great day!”

Oh well.

FFG announces Ugg-Tect (top contender for weirdest game of the year)

FFG has recently announced a game of caveman architecture titled Ugg-Tect, this has to be one of the oddest games FFG has ever announced, and I think it may be the only game to include inflatable clubs.

box-HB03-rightMore from FFG’s announcement: Two teams must compete to construct simple monuments out of wooden blocks... but only their leader, the ingenious ugg-tect, can see the plans. Without showing his secret Project card to his tribemates, the ugg-tect must instruct his team, guiding them as they recreate the project using wooden blocks. Adding to the challenge, the paleolithic language barrier is an ever-present obstacle; an ugg-tect and his tribemates may only communicate with a limited vocabulary of grunts and gestures, along with a few “corrective” taps of an inflatable club!

You can learn more here if your interested:

I should probably mention that this really isn’t a new game, but I think this is it’s first American release. Learn more:

Matriarchy Trooper Strategy

Here is an article I wrote a while back for FFG but it didn’t make the cut, these things happen, but I thought it was still good enough to go ahead and post here.

The latest Tannhäuser expansion is the Matriarchy Troop Pack which brings some new firepower to your Matriarchy and UMTOMA forces. As with the previous Union and Reich Trooper Packs this expansion gives you two new troopers for your forces, but unlike the previous releases these Matriarchy troopers are completely new. The new Boepripacy Soldat and the Zazigag Soldat are both quite unique.

The Star Spangled Man…

Here is the final version of Captain America Epic for Tannhauser.

First is a new rules supplement card to cover all the special rules for the Vibranium Shield. This can be used as a card back for the shield’s equipment card.

shield suppliment

After the jump are the corrected and checked versions of all the cards, tokens, and character sheet. Be sure to click the images for larger versions.

Tannhauser Sword and Sorcery Mod

I just started working on this so this is just a prototype.

I’m a fan not just of the Tannhauser theme, but I really like the pathfinding mechanic, and the TH game play in general. But some times you just need to hack your way through a bunch of orks.

So first here is an example player character sheet.

You’ll notice that I kept almost everything, skills, the stat grid, and the inventory slots. I added a few health rows so the characters are a little more survivable. Also, I added two more inventory slots, we’ll come back to that. First I want to talk about the new stat column, the one with the star. While players will be playing co-op against a dungeon master, most of their stuff will be kept separate including Command Points, which I’m replacing with “Skill Points” the number in the Skill Point column is the number of points that character receives per turn. The new skill points are going to be used to do not only what CP can do in TH but also for almost anything that TH rules don’t already cover i.e. certain types of magic, etc.

Next is the new inventory system, characters are generic, they have a faction i.e. Human, and a class i.e. Paladin. Then they have an equipment pack based on their “alignment” There is a Just pack, a Neutral pack, and a Dark Pack. each pack contains a special object and three other tokens. Also characters receive two special tokens based on their class, for Six total tokens. Finally there will be a Chaotic option that gives you a choice of any of your pack tokens except the special objects, leaving one empty slot.

Virtually everything else will stay the same as TH, so if you play TH all you’ll need is some figs and a bunch a character sheets and tokens, TH already has two maps that will be ok for dungeon crawl play (the crypt and the labyrinth) also I converted the Cave Troll map to the pathfinding system.

Well that’s all for now on this, I’ll come back to this after I post the finalized version of Captain America.

Movie Poster Howling Commando Character Sheets

These Howling Commando Character sheets are base on a Captain America movie poster, so they’re not technically art at all, but derived from actor photos. These have the advantage of matching the new Clix figures better then most found art.

Above the new Dum Dum figure, below the new character sheet.

dum dum movie sheet

Next new Gabe figure above, new character sheet below.

gabe movie sheet

I’m still not a hundred percent happy with this “art”, but it’s the closest to what I want so far. For now I’m going to be moving these guys and the other howling Commandos to the back burner, I’m going to finish up The Captain. Then move on to some other projects, I come back to these in a few weeks.

All for mow.

The First Howlers…

and maybe the last…

I was trying to stick to the movie version of the Howling Commandos as much as possible, but art is hard to come by. I’ve already resorted to using comic art, but only two of the movie commandos are in the original team. so, here are the first two Dum Dum and Gabe Jones.

The Dum Dum sheet features actual art created for the Captain America movie, and it’s the style I like the best, it has a very TH feel.

hc sheet 1 DumDum

The Gabe sheet is comic art and it of course has very hard angles and heavy shading that really doesn’t fit with the other TH art.

hc sheet 2 Gabe

Well all for now, I’ll keep working to improve these before I move on to the Howler’s equipment.

Updated Captain Character Sheet

Just finished updating the Captain’s character sheet, everyone has had very good suggestions, and I’ve taken a lot of it to heart.

Here you go…

Sheet front with new stats.

cap ap sheet 3 copy

Sheet back with new non-token special rules.

cap ap sheet back copy Enjoy.

Note: I’ve noticed a typo, so beware.

And now for some… Cake!

Necessity is the mother of invention, and rationing during World War II created a need for a lot of inventing, even for not quite necessities like cake. Here is a great recipe to keep in mind for your next World War II theme gaming night.

This wartime cake has survived the intervening years for several reasons: it contains no cholesterol, it can be put together right in the pan it's baked in, and it is a dark, moist and delicious chocolate cake, despite being only about 138 calories per 2" square serving (or small wedge, from a round pan). And, if you make it with canola oil, it also contains a minimum of saturated fat. Over the years, this has been one of King Arthur Flour's most requested recipes.

Follow the step-by-step photos for making this cake at
the King Arthur Flour blog, Baking Banter.

1 1/2 cups (6 1/4 ounces) King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
1 cup (7 ounces) sugar
1/4 cup (3/4 ounce) cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) vinegar
1/3 cup (2 5/8 ounces) vegetable oil
1 cup (8 ounces) cold water

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

Measure all the dry ingredients into an 8" or 9" round or square cake pan; if you use an 8" pan, make sure it's at least 2" deep. Blend the ingredients together thoroughly with a fork or whisk and scoop out three holes, or indentations.

Pour the vanilla into the first hole, the vinegar into the second, and the vegetable oil into the third.

Take the cup of cold liquid (water, coffee, milk, etc.) and pour it directly over everything in the pan. Note: If you've used espresso powder, adding coffee will make this a mocha cake. Stir all the ingredients together with your fork until they are well blended.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Serve right from the pan; warm from the oven, this Cake-Pan Cake is wonderful with a big glass of milk; Yield: 12 to 16 servings.

Nutrition information per serving (60g): 188 calories, 2g protein, 28g carbohydrates, 7g fat, 1g fiber, 1g saturated fat, 0g trans fat, 0mg cholesterol, 203mg sodium, 17g sugars, 0mg vitamin C, 1mg iron, 2mg calcium.

Fan Submissions

Today Ron Smeets brings us three little thing that you might find neat.

The first is a 40k style tile map with TH paths added, you can get it HERE.

The second is a strange but neat little map for 1 vs. 1 games for learning TH or just for fun. It’s based on a Russian “Novgorod” class small attack vessel, you can get it HERE.

Lastly is what can only be describe as a TH flowchart, some of you more flowchart minded folks may find it quite helpful, get it HERE.

April Bonus Token

For this month’s artifact we have Godfrid’s spoon, which given its origin as a Norse artifact could almost make it a vague Avengers tie in.

Godfrid’s Spoon

A simple ladle once owned by Godfrid, a Viking ruler. Drinking any liquid that makes contact with the ladle causes muscles to grow exponentially, thereby increasing strength, but this effect is temporary and stop shortly after one stops using the spoon.

13 nutral back copyspoon

Artifact • This token must replace a character’s Special Object. While equipped with the “Spoon” a character becomes “Epic” all characteristic values are increased by +1, and they are considered to have 5 stat rows. In addition they must obey all rules for the use of Epic Heroes.
